“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10) (ESV)
With these words Jesus promises everyone of us a life that is rich, plentiful and full of joy. The mistake many of us make is that we perceive this abundant life only to begin when we reach eternal life. In the meantime we live our lives from day to day, many times just wishing the next day to be finished so that we can try and find a solution for the next day’s problems.
The reality is that Jesus never intended our lives to be compartmentalised into earthly living and eternal living. When he spoke about living a life in abundance he wanted us to start living that life here on earth already.
Each of us have the potential to experience a life that is meaningful and full of joy. All we have to do is to make the choice if we will allow the devil to suck out all that abundance with busyness and fear or if we will trust in God’s promises and live a life that is full of blessing for ourselves and for others. A heavenly life that is abundant, joyful and full of meaningful activities that will just continue one day when we meet up with him.
Our objective today should be to live as if heaven is here and now on this earth and if it is not, to make it heaven.
